About The Institution:

with wonderful infrastructure facilities in its sprawling 45 acre campus, the
institution provides quality education and research facilities to students and
teachers with the state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
component. The Institution has the distinction of being the first in Erode
district to be accredited by NAAC and to offer courses under the Choice Based
Credit System (CBCS). Presently the institution houses about 2700 students and
nearly half of them are women.
The institution promotes research culture among the
faculty and students, encourages them to publish academic work, promotes
faculty participation in consultancy and is responsive to the needs of the
community. The institution also displays
sensitivity to changing educational, social and market demands and is always
geared to promote an ambience of creativity and innovations. It has a visionary and result oriented
management with lofty goals and objectives.
About the Library:
Named
after the former president
of the College
Council Dr. K.S. Janakarathnam, the library has the state of the art
facilities. It caters to the
multifarious academic and intellectual needs of the students, researchers and
staff. Functioning in a built-in area of 21,025 sq.ft, it uses the library management
software package viz., “NOOLAGAM” which was developed by our MCA students. The
other salient features are: Library Membership Module, Acquisition of Book
Module, Circulation Module, Book Search Module, Journal Management Module,
Visitor’s Entry Module, Report Module, Today’s Arrival Module and Internet
Browsing Service. Our library is
circulating above 47,000 books and 2800 Back volumes of periodicals. The CD library has 1100 CDs on various subjects.
129 national journals/magazines, 11 international journals and 20 E-journals
have been subscribed by the library. In addition Civil Service Coaching centre
is functioning in our College Library.
About the Seminar:
Information
Technology has dramatically impacted the Librarians and their relationship to
the communities they serve. As we are at the threshold of year 2009, we
librarians must reassess and reconsider the changing library environment. Librarians, individually and collectively,
cannot ignore the changing shape of Information services that are
emerging. Everyone knows that primary
objective of library is to organize and provide access to information. The objective will never change, but the
format and methods that we have used will change dramatically; thus, providing
new opportunities and challenges. On
this backdrop this Seminar will focus on rethinking the role of a library
professional, both in relationship to his personal identity and the community
he serves.
The
principal objectives of this Seminar is to provide a platform for exchange
of knowledge, ideas and make the Librarians Information specialists,
Information providers and conversant with
LIS.
CALL FOR PAPERS:
This Seminar focus on the
issues related to the theme of the Seminar and papers are invited on the
following topics:
1. Emerging trends on Management and Technology
in Library Services.
2. Knowledge Economy and Disaster Management in
Libraries.
3. Marketing of Library Services.
4. Digital and E-learning Library
5. Library consortia, Networking and Resource
Sharing, Information literacy
6. Open Access Initiatives, IR movement and
legal aspects of librarianships.
Those
who wish to present their original papers are requested to submit the same in
full not exceeding 8 pages on or before 10.08.2009 to the
Organising Secretary.
SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:
Authors
are requested to submit the papers along with soft copy of full paper (with
abstract not exceeding 200 words and at least five keywords) an e-mail
attachment to the Organising Secretary and hard copy sent through post.. The
paper should not exceed 8 pages of A4 size with
double line spacing and font size 12” Times New Roman, Charts, Graphs, Photographs, if any, should be inserted at proper places in the
paper. Original case studies, new ideas, innovations and reports on good
practices will be given preference for presentation and publication. Last date
for submission of full paper 10.08.2009.
Last date for Registration 25.08.2009.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE AND FEE:
The
registration fee is Rs.200/- for Professionals/Academicians and Rs.100/- for
Students / Research scholars. The
registration fee may be paid through Demand Draft in favour of the PRINCIPAL,
Papers without registration fee will not be accepted.
Accommodation:
Accommodation
in local lodges on chargeable basis will be arranged on the request of the
participants.
