Dear all,

I think list moderation is a must for any LISTServ.

It will be clear from some examples like: (derived from one LISTServe)

" Please check my Dialyflog"
" @$%$^ invited to join you ..."
" Fwd this mail to 100 ppl and your some wish will be fulfilled"
" People with weak heart should not open"
" Obama is a relative of Bush"
" Wishing you all a happy ....."
" See how Hindu's ..."

You can very well think about the disappointment members will have when they'll see such kind of mails in their inbox. It is quite natural that they may bypass such lists.

Yeah, But I believe that the moderation should be unbiased.

Dear Saji S Nair,

I strongly believe that such discussions must be free from filtration and objections.

    Dear All,

Thanks to Internet, as we have a plenty of email discussion forums in LIS. In India, some of the discussion lists are moderated by List Owners, but others are free-for-all discussion groups without message filtering measures.

Currently, the number of messages appearing in moderated lists is meagre when compared to the other category. If email from subscribers to a moderated list is not got posted, it is quite natural that they may bypass such lists. Is it a welcome trend? It is argued that any member of a list can take part in a conversation or begin a new topic without any difficulties.

The question is:

Is there any need for rigorous reviewing/filtering measures in moderated email discussion forums in LIS?
