Hi Ananda,
To the best of my knowledge all the e-book providers, including
ebrary, knovel, netlibrary, and CRCNetbase, make available MARC
record of their holdings. These MARC records can easily be imported
to the ILS, which then makes it available for search through the
WebOPAC. The link to e-books are normally given through the tag 856.
This looks to me the best solution since the library WebOPAC should
ideally integrate the different resources the library subscribes to.
I have some more details on these solutions as well as screenshots;
mail me offline this group if you need them.
Again, if you have a Digital Library (DL) system which accepts XML
metadata standards such as Dublin Core (DC) it would be possible to
integrate these MARC records in that too. It would be three step
procedure, viz., MARC => MARCXML, MARCXML => DC XML, DC XML => DL
system. There are free tools available on the web to do these
conversions. Though I don't know if anyone has done it, I'm willing
to give a helping hand if someone wants to try.
Regards,
Saiful

Publishers are coming out with more and more e-books and existing e-book collections/databases like knovel, netlibrary and ebrary etc, does not allow us to integrate/add all the purchased e-books to their collection. This has created a barrier to Library & Information Centers to have an integrated and searchable e-book collection/database.
Have you come across any third party/neutral tools/software to integrate e-books from different publishers, without compromising on IPR issues?
Best Regards, Anand
