Dr Vinod raised good point. But why someone should tie the bell to the cat?
why not librarians and why only faculty? the library is an important
resource for every one including outside the profession. At least those who
ae heading the library can making their lobby ( as most librarians meet
many officials in the univ every day). Dr baba from Kashmir univ is a
librarian, but he is heading the dlis/ He is one of the efficient
professional but not a faculty. still he is heading the dlis, that is fine.
let every one build image of the profession and fight for filling the
positions.
thanks

Dear All,
Good issue is raised in this email. My simple question is what is achievement and purpose of congratulation? i.e. we are happy that a LIS professor became part time in-charge of a big library or happy that Librarian could not be appointed for a big library?
The message conveyed in previous email is very sensitive and in my opinion whether the departments have taken initiative to convince the authority for full time appointment of LIS vacant posts in their libraries? because i feel Libraries are real laboratories of the LIS departments so all the LIS professionals must work together for uplifting the profession in that organization itself, but unfortunately this coordination and cooperation is missing at various places and ultimately departments as well as libraries are suffering a lot.
Please note that my intention is not personal but happy to see that many LIS faculty/Librarian have to much potential and working like multitasking employees !
Dear friends,
Nowadays, we notice that LIS faculty members are taking additional responsibility of heading the library also, which in my opinion is not good for our profession, and it also raises many questions. First, they should know that when there are so many university librarian's posts are vacant, and at the same time many qualified LIS professionals are not getting top jobs, how can someone do this?. Will the LIS faculty allow the librarian/Dy

I have come across many cases of such 'isolation' of Library officers from the department although both are equally qualified in the subject domain. Second, the librarian's job is a full-time job and it is doubtful how a faculty member can devote his/her time in the library? can we say that they have enough time to spare after taking classes and guiding research? or they spend very little time in the library administration? For whatever reasons this 'encroachmen t' librarian and the teacher belongs to the same profession. I think even if the faculty member says 'no' to such requests for the VC, heaven will not fall on him/her but, it will enable the university administration to fill up the post soon. I do not mean to hurt anyone but, given the fact that only a very small percentage of LIS professionals engaged in teaching, we should expect that every one should have equal opportunity in our profession.
