Dear All, Many thanks to Ms. Hena for her useful suggestions. We're working on them for implementation in Bhongir. Our first goals are: To establish a School Library Resource Center for Bhongir. To build up a core collection of 500 best books for children. (Please recommend books to acquire in English, Telugu, Hindi (few) & Urdu (few) which are suitable for children studying Class 1 to 10 in a predominantly rural area. Please suggest good publishers of children's books.) We have talked to the publishers of Champak children's magazine. They have agreed to provide the magazine at bulk discount rate. Champak is one of the very few children's magazines which is rational in its approach and promotes scientific temper and inculcation of human values. We hope to divide those 500 books into 5 groups. Each group would consist of 100 books. The general book collection in every school library would be replaced (and shifted to its neighbouring library) once every 3 months so that children will have new books to read. We want a downpour of suggestions on how to start 70+ school libraries in Bhongir with low establishment and running costs. We want a good suggestion on low cost book rack for storing 100- 200 books. Our requirements: books should be visible; protection from dust and insects; secure and enable locking. Thank you Sincerely T.V. Prafulla Chandra On 5 Oct 2009, at 12:52, HENAG wrote:
Hi all,
I agree with Mr. Prafulla Chandra ,if there is no library then we should convince the area /district authority to start with one .
Also I think Govt / Panchayat can start a public library for school children only . We librarians can help in establishing that , School teachers can be given training to manage the library . Local schools will have access to this library in turn. The book selection can be done by the School teachers in coordinating with us the librarians . I'm ready to help in this type of initiation if the area is identified and can convince the Panchayet leader to identify the place for storing the library books.
It can be started as consortia . Combined budget from all schools, panchayet and donors will build the big library which should either be opened with membership individually or collectively as schools to raise the fund in future.
Best regards Hena

Dear Sir,
It would be nice if a school library is started during the national library work. It costs Rs.12,000 to start a small library with a steel book rack, a good collection of carefully selected books (around 200) and the required stationery. There are 70+ schools in Bhongir that do not have a library of their own. How about celebrating NLW by establishing a school library. Thank you Sincerely T.V. Prafulla Chandra
