Dear Friends,
It is really good time to congrats Dr. Haravu and his technical team for their efforts. I am agreed the words of Dr. I.R.N. Goudar regarding the technicalities of the software. Prof ARD & his team given momentum and made term Open Source Software is very simple. Many of us have experimented on many OSS like Dspace,Greenstone,Eprint, Khoa. Now, time has come for NewGenLib. May i request to Dr Haravu to take initiative to conduct some of training program on NewGenLib in India. This will help us to understand the technicalities of NewGenLib its basic
requirements. I suggest that INFLIBNET, DELNET, SALIS or other agency should take initiative to conduct the training program with help of Dr Haravu.
I am ready to take the initiative to organize a training program on NewGenLib at my university with all best possible infrastructure and facilities.
With regards,

Subject: [LIS-Forum] Furthering NewGenLib
Dear All,
We got yet another excellent open software with all possible standards and
hitherto un-available fulltext linking.
This is the right time to think ways of intertwining it with our daily
professional practices in some more libraries.
As Dr Goudar pointed out, we need to think of evolving strategies to promote
it by building up the capacity of a group of IT friendly professionals in
learning, handling ,developing simple documentation and helping others to
use the software in their libraries.
Many excellent and easily usable pieces of software fail to root well in our
profession, mainly because of
the failure or deficiency in delivering the
content of training in a simple and incremental manner to suit the new
adult learners. Creation of simple manuals and giving training in a
simple, cohesive and modular manner is essential.
Any software is very easy to use, if someone help you know the proper
sequence of choosing the option. If the proper sequence is not taught, using
any simple software is a difficult task. So we need to design our training
and promotion policy on thie NewGenLib software strategically, in a context
where IT enabled libraries are envisaged far more than earlier by all,
including the knowledge commission.

Subject: [LIS-Forum] NewGenLib-What next?
Dear Professionals,
Great news! NewGenLib, library automation software has become open source
software. This welcome development raises many questions:
a. What would be the role of Mr. Haravu and his colleagues now onwards?
b. Who would support the further development of NewGenLib?
c. Who would give the support for installation, customization and
porting the whole data if one would like to migrate to this software?
d. What about the libraries who have baought NewGenLib earlier? etc
Initially we should hold one day brain storming round table meeting of
selected 15-20 top level Indian librarians in the country who have
successfully automated their libraries in a big way and few LIS Faculty
along
with Dr.
Haravu and his technical team. I request Dr. ARD Prasad of DRTC to
take a lead in this matter.
Dr. I.R.N. Goudar
