Title: Is the library going through an identity crisis?

Abstract

According to historical findings, the Library of Assyrian king Ashurbanipal in 7th century B.C was the earliest known library in the world.  The archived clay tablets can still be found in the British Museum, London. In the 21st century A.D we now intend to raise the question if our libraries are going through an identity crisis, how much has it evolved and what is its identity today. Numerous factors like internet and Web 2.0 technologies, economic crisis and budget constraints, career goals and professional identity crisis of library personnel etc., and their impact, are to be discussed and debated, to gain knowledge and make a humble attempt to analyse the true state of libraries today.
