National Seminar on “Digital Future of Library Materials: Issues and Challenges” Organised by- Department of Library and Information Science, Vidyasagar University, Medinipur – 721 102, West Bengal Date- March 17-18, 2011 Venue - B C Mukherjee Hall, Vidyasagar University Campus, Midnapore About the Seminar Libraries have undergone considerable changes to cope up with the increasing use of technology. Information Centers are striving hard to match the expectation of users by competing with other Internet information service providers. Customized information aggregation, Tagging etc. is a few of the initiatives which libraries are embracing to make their existence relevant. Document storage, representation and document delivery are three of the most important activities of Library services which are ever influenced as technology develops. In pursuit of changing face of library services and activities the Department of Library and Information Science of Vidyasagar University organizing two day National Seminar on “Digital Future of Library Materials: Issues and Challenges”. During the seminar the theme will by analysed from multiple perspectives ranging from user interface and digital preservation technologies to affordability and sustainability of digital technologies. Sub Themes The following sub themes may be considered in this connection: I) Emerging Trends in Digital Preservation Technologies ; II) Open Source and Commercial Software; III) Sustainability of Open Access Initiatives; IV) Future of e-journals & e-books : Emerging Integrated format; V) Building Institutional Repositories; VI) Transcending the language barriers through digital technologies; Call for Papers We invite articles on the aforementioned sub-themes. Full paper in MSWord, references following Indian Standard (IS:2381-1978) in CD or by e-mail and a hard copy of the same must reach us by 2nd March, 2011. Target Audience Apart from LIS professionals, teachers, researchers, and students; scientists, social scientists, IT specialists, alongwith information users from different disciplines and activities are expected to participate and render their experiences and suggestions on the seminar topic. Registration Fees- Student (V. U.) Rs. 150.00; Others- Rs. 250.00 Payment should be made by Cash / DD in favour of the Dept. of Library and Information Science, Vidyasagar University. Filled in Registration Form and Fees must reach on or before March 8, 2011. Accommodation- Accommodation of outstation participants may be arranged if request is sent at least ten days before the Seminar. Participants will have to bear the charges.
