Capacity Building Workshop on Open Source DSpace-9    November  20-22, 2025

 

Indian Statistical Institute is a unique institution devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences and recognised as a Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. The Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), established in 1962 by Prof. S. R. Ranganathan is an internationally recognized centre for advanced training and research in Library and Information Science. DRTC is a unit under the Social Science Division of the Indian Statistical Institute. Since its foundation, the DRTC, at ISI Bangalore Centre, has played a major role in almost all pedagogical and research advances in the Indian LIS milieu.

Workshop Schedule

Day 1:

●       Overview of digital repositories, DSpace architecture, and its significance

●       Overview of Linux and Basic Commands

●       Installation of Linux (Ubuntu LTS)

●       Installation of DSpace

○       Linux, or

●       Discussion and Solving Issues

●       Assignment: Installation of DSpace

Day 2: Customization and Content Management

●       DSpace Workflow

●       DSpace Administration

●       Community and Collection Setup      

●       Metadata Management: Understanding and configuring metadata schemas (Dublin Core, custom metadata fields)

●  User Roles and Permissions: Managing users, groups, and access permissions in DSpace

●       Hands-on experience

 

Day 3: Outline of Workshop

●       Customizing the DSpace Interface (Modifying themes, logos, and branding; hands-on customization)

●       Email Configuration

●       Access via IP or domain

●       Import, Export,

●       Hands-on experience

●       Addressing common issues, optimization, and best practices for maintaining DSpace
