      As long as librarians and library associations keep silent, such things will continue to happen unabatedly. It is an irony that we have hundreds of library associations which are busy organising conferences but don’t have time or interest to fight against such violations. Look at Tamilnadu Library Association which went to court and ensured that the Govt. appoint only a library professional as director of public libraries. How many of our LIS associations at least attempt to do so?
Today, many libraries in universities and IITs are headed by a professor-in-charge instead of librarians. Let us frankly ask ourselves, Who is responsible for this? In my opinion the issue of INFLIBNET director also comes under public scrutiny which is lacking in our profession.

Dear Library Professionals,
It is a very shocking news that a Non-Library person appointed as the
Director of INFLIBNET Centre.
This is a very unscientific decision to manage a Library Network by
non-librarian.
Though the essential qualification for the post is that the person from
relevant field, the appointed person is from Statistics, which
is not the relevant field.
It is the prime duty and responsibility of all library professionals and
associations to intimate the authorities the damage may create to the
profession and also to the academics and R&D at large by the decision.
How a Non-Medicine man can do treatment and surgery.  A computer man can
establish physical network, but can not manage knowledge and library and
provide knowledge services scientifically and effectively.

It's much delayed because Non library professional has already joined as
Director of INFLIBNET. I think we should put efforts for next time so that
the trend started should not be continued.
