Even banks fail to recover loans. Inspite of all strict rules and regulations, most of the banks have a very high Non-peforming assets ( NPA ) and even big industrialists are defaulters!! The Non Performing Assets(NPA) of 27 public sectorbanks shot up to Rs.56,608 crore in september 2001 ( source http://eastindiavyapaar.com/trade/bank/bank_non_perf_assets.htm ) It does not mean that we have to follow this wrong example. We have plenty of rules and regulations. Most of us fail at implementation level. G.K.Manjunath IGIDR, MUMBAI On Mon, 13 Dec 2004, Puttaraj Choukimath wrote:
Dear Friends,
I think ... We should work like banks: they lend money we lend books!
Books are LOANED ... they have to be returned without fail.
While giving the membership only it should be specified that what action would be taken for any overdues/misuse/mutilation etc. And, these specifications/terms and conditions of 'LOANS' (with the approval of authorities or committees) should carefully/clearly be drafted, and duly signed by the users. Taking NOC should be made compulsary, if any user has to leave the institution.
There should be proper "Understanding-Cooperation-Communication" between "Library-Academic Section-Accounts".

if any other others are also welcome to share ... thank you all.
