Title- Public Libraries Today: Societal Significance, Visibility and Role of Technology.

Abstract:

Public libraries today function as key social institutions that support equitable access to information, lifelong learning and community engagement. Despite of their continuing relevance, public libraries face challenges related to public visibility, technological change and many constraints which limit their potential. This colloquium examines Public Libraries Today: Societal Significance, Visibility, and the Role of Technology through perspectives from India and the world. The presentation provides a brief introduction to public libraries, examines the role of governing bodies, explores the application of technology and discusses visibility enhancement strategies alongside key observations on contemporary challenges. The colloquium aims to highlight the need for sustained attention to public libraries and their relevance in society.
