With a mission to educate for professional judgment and performance, Sullivan argues, professional programs seek to enable their students to integrate specialized knowledge and specific skills within the profession's commitment to clients and society. (Work and Integrity, p. 207) Join us to discuss how Sullivan's model applies to graduate professional education in library and information science and to share examples of teaching practices that characterize each of the apprenticeships: The first apprenticeship is intellectual, focused on the knowledge base of the field, and characterized by reasoning, argument, and research. The second is practical, the body of skills needed to be a competent practitioner. The third is ethical, including the skills, traits, responsibilities that characterize a professional.
