Dear all, In my opinion the Internet Age has made professional librarians a lazy bunch. I miss the level of sincerity at cataloging. Subject descriptors are treated perfunctorily. Interaction with the serious kind of research based users is often avoided. Language skill and communication ability are not being given the required weight. The ready availability of information at the click of a mouse (if even we don't understand the import of it)and the ability of search engines to retrieve pieces of information embedded in documents are turning away the young generation of librarians from the labor of cultivating knowledge and understanding. Overall, this is adversely impacting our analytical skills and the faculty of synthesis.
