Please excuse cross posting - this may be of interest to you or a colleague Training Workshop on Computer Applications in Social Sciences As a part of its ongoing programmes, Madhya Pradesh Institute of Social Science Research (MPISSR) is organising a ten-day Training Workshop on Computer Applications in Social Sciences between January 9 and January 18,2007. The objective of the training workshop is to impart training in the areas such as computer system, quantitative and qualitative research processes, data processing using computer and making sense of the results. After introducing the participants to computer and its usages, the Workshop shall introduce participants with the research processes and familiarise them with data, its measurement and its transfer to computer. The major quantitative research techniquesdescriptive and inferential statistics using Frequency, Mean, cross-tabulation, Log-linear methods, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis shall be taken up next with the help of a given data set. All the lectures will be followed by an interactive review session and group discussions. At the end, the participants shall be divided in groups and each group shall aim at analysing the given data based on a framework developed by the group. The findings of the analysis shall be presented to the rest of the groups. Knowledge of quantitative research methods and statistical techniques is a prerequisite for participation in the Workshop. Sleeper class rail fare both ways will be provided to the selected participants. The participants will also be provided with free accomodation. The Participants will be charged a fee of Rs 800 in case of teachers; Rs 400 for PhD students with fellowship; Rs 200 for PhD students without fellowship. Selected participants may have to deposit Rs 800V- as earnest money, which is refundable only after full attendance in the Course.
