True, digital technology has virtually eroded traditional printing, photography and music industries causing concern, among professionals, about ‘identity crises’, ‘fear of extinction’ or ‘need for repositioning’ the profession. Several repositioning options like ‘invisible Intermediary’, ‘pro-active Librarian’, ‘embedded librarian’, etc. were also put forth by experts. A personal visit to a modern newly built (2013) huge public library, which attracts over 7000 visitors a day like a tourist spot in the centre of the city, gave an exciting real life example of repositioning the profession, that too for public libraries, by incorporating several closely related professional services.
