dear friends, we have many ASSOCIATIONS at National and regional level. Every one want to have an Annual conference and a delayed published Newsletter and journal. What more are these associations are really doing. The problems are increasing year after the year. Especially now the status and facilities given to academic librarians is at stake? One after the other the facilities are being removed. more than 80% university libraries are not having librarians appointed? every where it is in-charge? does it mean the value of professionals is coming down? Is it true that our recognition is going from bad to worse? The associations should arrange not only representations but also dharna and protest at every place in the country. It is also true that some write messages but do not turn up for such protests? Naturally the professionals are loosers? It is high time that the Associations take lead and do something for the profession. Even several times the elections are also not known to the members? notification is not sent to the members? Now we are promoting SLA and these people join hands with someone and participate in conferences. The members and office bearers of SLA should emulate from their principals at USA and do the activities for the benefit of the professional;s. as they are not able to represent the profession? Again elections are prestigious to some people and stick / hang on to the posts immaterial whether they contribute to the profession or not. It is hard time that the Associations raise to the occasion and represent the profession at various places for the benefit of the professionals. My submission is not against any individual or Association, it is only that I am ringing the alarm bell as our profession is going to be slowly will loose value, image and status. Let all young professionals join and start kicking of the activities and actions to save themselves and profession without waiting for any individual. Direct formation of groups and work every one and also make the professional associations to start acting for the benefit of the profession. I never want to create pain to any one please with best wishes Prof. N.LAXMAN RAO, Member, Advisory Board, National Library, Kolkata UGC-Emeritus Fellow (2009-11) Professor in Library and Information Science, Osmania University, Hyderabad ( super-annuated).
