International Honour for Young Indian Scientists New Delhi, December 10, 2007- Scopus(r), the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed research literature and quality Web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize, today announced the Second Young Indian Scientist Awards which were awarded at an event held at "Le Meridian" in New Delhi on December 7. The award instituted by Elsevier has selected nine recipients from areas such as Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environment and Engineering in order to cover both basic and applied disciplines. The event was attended by many scientists, Vice Chancellors of several universities, bureaucrats from the Ministry of Science & Technology, Higher Education, and Defense. The event highlighted aspects of Indian science and culture. The researchers were carefully considered on both qualitative and quantitative parameters. The jury included eminent subject experts from all over the country, who also attended the ceremony. Opinions of prominent Bibliometricians for nine subject areas were also taken into consideration for selection. Phil Govaert, the Managing Director for Elsevier's International markets, highlighted the importance and the need for scholarly information in the research process. The function was also attended by Niels Weertman, Director Product Management Scopus, who explained how Scopus was a smart application for tracking, analyzing and visualizing trends in research helping the award selection process.
