An article on the LIS subject has been published in the University News 51(30) July 29-Aug04,2013.The author ,Dr Anil Singh, may be given credit to highlight some of the pathetic situation being visible for quite a long time in this profession. Time has come when MHRD and UGC must take due initiative to ensure quality education, proper training, fair selection in LIS..Dr Singh has rightly pointed out pathetic situation in the universities as some deptts lack proper/regular faculties, basic infrastructure like computers and relevant s/w,research oriented education,etc.There are only few institutions in India which have still maintained the quality output. Dr Chattopadhyaya Committee had recommended to start an Indian Library Service on par with other All India Services.Howerver for one or other reason the GOI didnt take any initiatives in this direction. Dr Singh has rightly stated that nepotism & favouritims both have reserved their berths in this profession.His suggestion with regard to selection of Asstt Librarian/Asstt Professor by UPSC or like institute is worthwhile. I congratulate Dr Singh for his courage and fair treatment of the subject.
