Dear Friends, Bangalore University library fund is a reality now The Bangalore University library committee has unanimously recommended to charge Rs 20 per student per year from government colleges, and open a separate account called the University Library Fund. BU will charge Rs 50 per student per year from private affiliated colleges. At a meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev, the committee decided to open the account in SBM, Nagarbhavi branch. There, library fee and money collected from UG and PG courses will be deposited. The fund will be used to develop library facilities. The committee will develop collection of study material for under-graduate students in Central College library. It will also provide 24-hour service to teachers and students. It plans to develop Bangalore University Academic Network (Balnet) to share books and journals on an inter-library loan. Other Decisions by the committe are,* *1. Enhance library budget from Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore, 2. Digitize rare books, thesis 3. Software to detect percentage of copied material in thesis and related work, 4. Ensure recent and popular books are bought, 5. The library will be open 24 hours.
