Dear members, There are many welcoming and protesting messages about the UGC decision on exempting the NET/SLET for the M.Phil and Ph.D holders for appointing as Lecturers. I shall appreciate if any one could give me the complete details of the official announcement on this regard so as to gain full details. I don't know what has been the reason behind this development. The Hindu has also said that Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat had also declined to explain the need for such a move at a news conference. This news are being interpretted differently by dailies. Based on the news of Tamil Nadu dailes. I observed the follwings: 1. M.Phil. holders can be appointed as Lecturer in Degree level institutions 2. Ph.Ds can be appointed as Lecturer in P.G level institutions 3. NET/SLET candidate can be appointed in both the levels. Let me ask the following questions: 1. If an institute offers both U.G and P.G programmes, what will be eligibility for appointing Lecturer? 2. What will be eligibility for the post of University Assistant Librarian? 3. The pay scale for the post of Lecturer/University Assistant Librarian/College Librarian/Documentation Officer is Rs.8000-13500/- Why the qualifcation varies for same scale of pay? 4. A Lecturer teaching U.G course with M.Phil and a Lecturer taching P.G course with Ph.D and a lecturer without both but with NET/SLET teaching both UG and P.G. Is is a digestable or judgeable or reasonable? 5. M.Phil is open to anybody who has a pass in M.L.I.S. degree. M.Phil distance admission is done at door steps by Universities' study centres. IGNO welcomes M.Phil holders for Ph.D distance mode Programme. What else is bar in getting M.Phil or Ph.D. 7.Obtaining Ph.D is simple and it depends on the Guides. Does it require any thing from the other end? 8. Why not the M.Phil and Ph.D holders clear the simple exam "NET/SLET". Is it not easy than Ph.D? My personal opinion is that the queue may not end for one post and the financially richer may ..... The UGC authorities may reconsider the decision and NET/SLET be made compulsory. P. It is well known that with the introduction of NET/ SET, people with minimum standard are getting into academic line, be it lecturers or library professionals in UGC scales. Though my observation may raise some controversy, but with my personal experience, I can say that in most part of India, it is easy to get a Ph. D. than clearing NET/ SET. I have seen people obtaining doctorate degrees without making much effort but having powerful guides and their blessings. This is true in most of the universities and let us accept it.
