Dear Sir/Madam, There has been a lot of discussion going on in LIS Forum on appointments of librarians and teachers in universities and elsewhere, which is a healthy trend. We have been kept quiet on this issue for some time. Because of social media like LIS forum has provided us an opportunity to raise such issue and at least make some people (senior professionals) aware and understand the anguish of young professionals and how they feel about the profession (if) there is any inkling of nepotism, cronyism, influence and corruption. Why appointments in universities, government institutions and elsewhere is lacking transparency and true spirit is many time the head of the universities (VCs), directors and selection committee look at the only legal side of the appointments (selections committees sometime have tried to make right choice but often their hands are tied). Earlier if we go back 20 years, appointments in universities and elsewhere to a(great)extent were transparent and heads of the appointment committees have made sincere efforts to appoint right people. This is the reason that still we have some of the best professionals in our profession and same in other domain as well. But in recent times, this trend is totally missing. Instead, nepotism, cronyism, influence and corruption have become the center stage. Those professionals who have had the great career because of good people at the helm are now failing miserably for appointing right people or compromising a lot with corrupt system and allow that to thrive. People (VCs, Directors, Appointments heads of various institutions) today sees only that there is no legal tangle for the appointments they made, but they don’t see the moral side of it and future of the institutes they heads. So there is so much of nepotism, cronyism, influence and corruption. Because of corrupt practice, nepotism, cronyism, our public institutions especially institutes of higher learning has lost its sanctity today in the minds of common people. Our society is also morally degrading same has been reflected in all field, our profession is also no exception. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The new political wave that is sweeping in our capital city (Aam Admi Party's (AAP) metomorphic raise as a new political outfit) and individuals like Prof. Neeraj Hatekar of University of Mumbai seen has a hope and give voice to those fight against creepy system that exists today.
