Dear  LIS Members in Bangalore

In the following message I sent inviting this forum members to  Dr. S R Ranganathan Memorial Lecture (Aug 9, 2022; 4-6:30pm),  I had indicated that limited transport arrangement will be made available.  Here are the details.


  1.  FOR THOSE TRAVELLING BY METRO:  The nearest Metro station for DRTC is Jnabharathi Metro Station.  DRTC has arranged pick-up transport from this Metro-station in two schedules.  At 3:00 PM and 3:30PM.  Please get down at this station, and look for the vehicle carrying banner  DRTC/SRELS Lecture near the Thalassery Restaurant which is adjacent to the Metro station.



  1.  VEHICLE FROM THE INFORMATICS OFFICE:  A vehicle is arranged leaving from  Informatics Office at 2:30 PM.  Those who wish to use this option are requested to reach Informatics office, located in 194, R. V. Road, Basavanagudi, Bangalore.
After the lecture, you will be dropped  back to where you are pickedup from

Dear Members of LIS-Forum

S R Ranganathan Memorial Lecture, instituted and organized by Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS),  is an annual intellectual treat to the LIS community.  This year’s SRR Memorial Lecture will be delivered by:

  *   Dr. Pertti Vakkari, Professor Emeritus of Information Studies, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Tampere University, Finland;
  *   On the topic: Task-based Information Searching
  *   On 9th August 2022, which also happens to be Dr. Ranganathan’s birth date;
  *   At the Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore.
The lecture will be delivered in two parts:
4:00-5:00 PM – Lecture 1: Information  Search Patterns in Complex Tasks
5:00-5:30 PM – Coffee Break
5:30-6:30 PM – Lecture 2: Assessing Information Search by Task Outcome.
6:30-7:00 PM – High-Tea

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Pertti Vakkari’s research interests include information seeking, task-based information searching, fiction searching, and methodologies for evaluating interactive information retrieval.  His work has appeared in the proceedings of numerous conferences, in edited monographs and leading journals such as Information Processing & Management and JASIST. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Documentation, and Information Processing & Management. Vakkari has been member in several program committees of conferences like ISIC, IIiX , ECIR and TPDL. He received in 2012 ASIS&T - SIGUSE Award for outstanding contributions to information behaviour.

On behalf of  Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science, I have pleasure in inviting all the members of this forum to attend this lecture.

For those in Bangalore attending this program, we are arranging  transport with two pick-up and drop points closer to Metro stations.
