Abstract of the talk:
Data pyramidically forms a basis for all transformations from Information to Wisdom, so far considered as trivial now has assumed an upside-down position in recent years.  The Big Data and Research Data Management concepts and data analytics have given a new image to data, both current as well as for archival data. Sharing and open data initiatives have added a dimension to this trend of revival and value addition to data. The European Commission and the US National Science Foundation, considering this trend has created the Research Data Alliance as a community to share data and also entered into Open (data) access movement.

Academic institutions, in particular, are considering data as an important resource to map the historicity and the development process organisation and as signposts for further progress. So managing the organisational and administrative data, though local and individual in gaining importance and is considered one of the important functions. The existing classification and categorisation of data deal more or less with classical data like social sciences and science and technology data, and international organisations like such as CODATA was created to deal with the classical data. But there are no standards or parameters to organise the organisational and administrative data, which would entitle to code the data for its structured organisation, store for access and retrieval. An attempt is made to explore the available methods of classifying and categorising organisational and administrative data and suggest a mechanism automatically map such data. In this process, Dr. Ranganathan’s Postulate of Five Fundamental Categories would be considered as guiding principles to map the data generated from the organisational and administrative transactions.
