*SEMINAR-6 (2018-2020) TITLE: SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION*

*Abstract*
The aim of this seminar is to examine the different factors involved in
search
engine optimization, a mechanism for improving the overall information
retrieval
process in the context of web search. Search engines continue to be the most
popular tool which enables us to scour the internet for all the relevant
information
that is needed. Hence for the rapid retrieval of the pertinent piece of
fact or data,
proper indexing of webpages is extremely essential. One of the most powerful
ways of doing that is using Search Engine Optimization. Using a host of
different
parameters such as content quality, metadata description and keyword
analysis
within a page, site structure and sitemap, SEO enables the search engine to
rank
the websites in an order which will be the most useful for the user,
increasing the
productivity of the search engine. The visibility in the web pages further
helps to
achieve two important areas of study in the library and information
science, i.e.,
findability and reusability of information or contents. In the case of
digital
libraries, the role of SEO becomes all the more important, since one of the
most
important purposes of a digital library is to make the best information
available to
the user in the least amount of time.
