Friends:

It is with much sorrow I received the news of the passing away of Prof.
Thyaga Nata Rajan.

I owe it to him my career as a teacher. After a couple of years at
Bangalore (where I was Secretary and Editor of publications at the Indian
Academy of Sciences) I returned to New Delhi in March 1975 to my parent
office, CSIR-PID. One day Prof. Rajan came to my flat (both of us lived in
the same campus near NPL) and requested me to join the faculty of INSDOC. I
refused at first as I had not attended a single course in LIS, but in the
end he won. I taught at INSDOC for nearly ten years. Many of those who were
in my class remain friends.

Prof. Rajan was a scholar. He would read anything he could lay his hands
on. Not many know about his knowledge of and passion for carnatic music.

I will miss him as will most of you.
