Dear Professionals,

With progress of time, the use of cyber techniques and technologies is
being increased. A Librarian needs to have a more sound knowledge of the
same.
On the other hand, there is no need to have illustrated knowledge of
cataloguing, as it is now generated by library management software
now-a-days. Need of classification also retards, if the book has DDC number
on back-title page.

Therefore I have to made two suggestions to LIS community and UGC also:

1. The LIS syllabus should cover larger area of cyber and IT technologies
including installation of different software at different platforms,
operating systems etc.

2. There should an institution in India which could provide *call numbers*
in process of publishing of a book. It will save time of libraries, as only
one person is needed to give a number. In such situations, *Classification
and Cataloguing *can be taught as optional subjects in the universities.

These are my opinions which needs discussions, if found relevant by LIS
community.

With Kind Regards,
