Dear Professionals,
School Libraries are live only when students are engaged. A library in a
school can greatly support the entire curriculum which is based on
developing 21st century learning skills through interesting and enjoyable
reading or information/digital literacy activities.
An initiative has begun in the form of a blog (
https://schoollibraryideas.wordpress.com/ ) to compile workable school
library ideas, activities, tips, tricks, techniques, or anything worthy
related to school libraries. It is conceived as a collaborative project in
which any one interested in school libraries can join and contribute. Post
your ideas directly if you have a WordPress account. If not, send a request
for an invitation to become a contributor. Or just mail your idea to
libidea at gmail.com. Contributors are requested to briefly present the idea
with a title and a short description or example.
Nearly 150 activities are already listed on the Blog under four categories,
namely, Library ideas for Classes I-V, VI-X, XI-XII and the whole
school. These activities may be conducted during the assigned library hours
or periods. Many activities are less time consuming but highly engaging.
I would like to acknowledge many people who shared their ideas and with a
special mention to Ms Usha Mukunada, well known library professional,
educationalist and founder-member of Centre For Learning, Bangalore.
