Governments should support Reading and Libraries instead Wine
Shops – Prof. Sarah Joseph, eminent writer and social activist opined while inaugurating the three day National
Book Festival organised in the College
of Horticulture of the KeralaAgriculturalUniversity, Vellanikkara.  People have to return back to books and
refine themselves. The education system should support learning and teaching in
humanities along with science and technologies topics, she continued.

(KAU).  C. Abdul Razak, Former University
Librarian, KAU delivered Key Note Address.  The book, “Re-engineering and Re-defining University Libraries in the
context of modern ICTs”, authored by Dr. A.T. Francis and published by Ess Ess
Publishers has been released by Prof. Sarah Joseph and Administrative Officer
K.S. Vijayalakshmi received the book. 
KAU General Council member Avinash Regi Thomas and Horticulture
College Students’ Union President A. Jamaludheen spoke.  Dr. Digee Bastian and K.V. Aparnasree have
been honoured as Best Readers of the Library. 
Associate Dean Dr. C.T. Abraham welcomed and Library Head Dr. A.T.
Francis proposed vote of thanks.
Thousands of books in all subjects like agriculture, science and
technology, health, literature, linguistics, entertainment, cinema, etc. has
been displayed in the exhibition by several Govt. and private agencies,
publishers, distributors, writers etc.  All books are available for purchase at a minimum discount of 15%. 
Admission to the festival was free and open to all, including farmers and
public.
 
Modern Library Technologies should provide
better services to Library Clientele
Modern library technologies should be targeted to
provide better services to the library clientele, Horticulture College
Associate Dean, Dr. C.T. Abraham opined while inaugurating the “Seminar on Technology
Management in Modern Libraries” jointly organised by the Kerala Library
Association (KLA) and College of Horticulture, KeralaAgriculturalUniversity.  KLA Thrissur Region President Dr. A.T.
Francis presided over the function and K.P. Sathian, Librarian, KAU delivered
Key Note address.  C. Abdul Razak, Former Librarian, KAU, V.C. John,
Librarian, ThejusEnginneringCollege,
Vellarakkad,  P.M. Biju, Librarian,
Quilandy Centre of SanskritUniversityspoke on the occasion. V.S. Swapna, KAU delivered
welcome address and Humayoon Kabir, KLA Regional Secretary and Librarian, Govt.MedicalCollege, Thrissur
proposed vote of thanks.
Dr.
P. Vijayakumaran Nair, Former Scientist, KFRI, Peechi, Vinitha Davies,
Librarian, St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth and N. Sarojam, Scientist &
Chief Librarian, KFRI were presented theme papers, “Digital Library: A
critical survey of packages available", “WiFi Networks in Libraries”
and "How to make available the contents of the journals
subscribed in the library for searching in online" respectively.
