About the Conference:
The present day LIS professionals have not only bestowed with the mere
function as custodians of library materials, but their roles have been
changing with the contemporary developments in the profession. The
changing times and the prevailing knowledge driven age, is becoming
all the more difficult to align LIS professionals to the ever changing
demands of the stake-holders. The current developments in Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) are playing a dominative role in
providing right Information to the right user in right format in right
time. Knowledge organization is the problem of arranging and
classifying what is collectively known as a society in ways that can
be easily understood and communicated to others.

Traditional human based knowledge organization activities are
increasingly challenged by computer-based retrieval techniques. It is
appropriate at this crucial juncture to investigate the relative
contributions of or both human intervened as well as automated
(computer) approaches, the current challenges make it imperative to
reconsider the basic understanding.

This international conference is an effort in this direction in
bridging the gap between the user, resources and mechanized systems,
and with the requisite services offered by the LIS professionals. This
conference also provides a platform for the LIS professionals across
the geographies to gather together, discuss, discover and carry
forward right solutions to transform the learning into their workplace
to serve their customers better.

Conference Theme:
“International Conference on Knowledge Management and Organization in
the Digital Era (ICKMODE-2013)”

About the Conference Theme: The concept of Knowledge Organization has
evolved from a simple technique of organizing books on shelves of
libraries in a systematic order. Subject approach to knowledge seekers
has been one of the main bases of knowledge organization and has been
core area of study of research even in the present digital
environment. The concept received a greater impetus with the first
practical classification systems developed in the late nineteenth
century and has been consistent persistent area of research since
then. The area of cataloguing particularly subject cataloguing added a
new dimension to the concept of knowledge organization. In the present
context these two areas of the past have been transformed into
Knowledge Organization systems in the digital environment especially
