12th International ISKO Conference

The International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) will hold its 12
th Biennial International Conference (ISKO 2012) in the University of
Mysore, Mysore, India from 6th - 9th August 2012. The University of Mysore
will play host to this international event. The conference will be jointly
organized by the ISKO (India Chapter), the Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for
Library Science and the University of Mysore. The conference has been
co-sponsored by DRDO, Government of India, The PES Institute of Technology
(Bangalore), Ranganathan Centre for Information Studies (Chennai), the
Society for Information Science (Bangalore Chapter) and the University of
Madras Department of Library & Information science.

ISKO is an international professional body that holds biennial
international conferences in different parts of the world. The last two
conferences were hosted respectively by the University of Montreal (Canada)
in 2008 and by the Sapienza University, Rome, Italy in 2010. This is only
the 2nd time that the ISKO has decided to have its Biennial International
Conference in India. The proposed conference will bring together disparate
groups from Information sciences, Computer Sciences, Library Sciences,
Philosophy and Linguistics on a single platform to discuss issues of
contemporary interest in Knowledge Representation and Organization.

Over 55 refereed papers by eminent scholars from around the world will be
presented during the conference. The complete conference programme will
shortly be made available on the conference website (www.isibang.ac.in/~isko).
The *Sarada Ranganathan Endowment Lectures 2012* will be delivered during
the conference by *Prof. Shigeo Sugimoto (University of Tsukuba, Japan) *on:
“*Sharing Information Resources across Communities and over Time: metadata,
digital libraries and archives, and information schools*”.

*A panel on* ‘*Is Classification Necessary?’ led by Prof. Birger Horland *will
be held on 9th August as part of the conference*.  *

A pre-conference workshop on *Categories for the Web* will be held on
6thAugust and admission to the workshop is free for all those who
register for
the ISKO Conference.
