NCSI-Net 
(http://ncsi-net.ncsi.iisc.ernet.in), an informal association comprising
 of NCSI staff, trainees, and alumni, cordially invites you to the 7th 
Dr. TBR Memorial Seminar (2011). This year’s seminar topic is, Designing
 Web Portal / Gateway Services Using Drupal. It is a one-day seminar 
targeted for the benefit of Library and Information Science (LIS) 
students and budding LIS professionals. 
 
The details of the seminar are given below:

About the Seminar Theme:
With
 the explosive growth of online
 resources, managing such resources has become a challenge for 
Information professionals.  Well designed organization or library web 
portals / Gateway services helps in the efficient dissemination of 
online resources to the user community. Today’s online resources 
includes variety of authoritative web resources (free & priced), 
integrating the relevant and useful resources into a web portal 
facilitates in the effective and efficient dissemination of information 
to the end users.  This can be achieved using either commercial or open 
source content management tools. Various open source CMS tools are 
available on the Internet. Drupal, Joomla, OpenCMS, and Wordpress are 
few such examples. In this seminar, some basic and useful features and 
functionalities of Drupal, one of the popular CMS tools will be 
featured.

Drupal (http://www.drupal.org) is an open source, platform independent content management system (CMS). Its popular features include simple to install and use,  modularity, customizable, multi-platform, multilingual, web 
2.0 complaint, web based administration, powerful report generation 
functionality, well organized browse and search etc. Being a modular 
package, it facilitates in enabling / disabling the functionalities as 
per the needs of implementers. It has a strong and active user and 
developer community who provide the much needed support in using the 
package effectively. Self explanatory online and offline documentation 
are also available for the package and they are updated frequently. 
Drupal is being used in developing different genres of website like 
Education, Institutional, E-commerce, News, Multimedia etc., World wide, more than 6000 registered websites are using drupal in various 
languages.

Objective of the Seminar:
To demonstrate the basic 
and essential features and functionalities of the Drupal CMS
 as to how this Open Source Web application can be used to build Web 
Portals and provide Web-based information services. At the end of the 
seminar, the participants should have a clear understanding of the 
various features of the Drupal CMS so that they can plan to make use of 
this CMS for their user Community

Resource Persons: 
NCSI-Net members who have practical experience with the CMSs will serve as resource persons

Who should attend the Seminar?
LIS
 Students and fellow professionals interested in developing Web portals 
and in providing web-based information services using a CMS

Registration Fee:
Rs.
 250 for Students (Should carry ID Card) and Rs. 500 for working 
professionals, for NCSI-Net members Rs. 150. Fee covers software CD, 
Seminar kit, working lunch and tea / coffee

Please do note that no arrangements for accommodation are being made for outstation participants. 

Number of participants is restricted
 to 50 (Space constraint) and it will be on first-cum-first-served basis.
