Final Call for Papers for XXVIII National Conference of IATLIS, 26-28
November 2011 at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.

Theme: LIS Education, Research and Training (LISERT): Vision 2020

Many issues and concerns have evolved during last few years in a
rapidly changing scenario of LIS Education, Research and training
(LISERT). Library Education is now more than100 years old in India,
and it is time to take stock of the present situation to develop a
vision for the near future. In order to discuss these issues and
concerns, IATLIS has decided to organize the XVIII IATLIS National
Conference on the theme ‘LIS Education, Research and Training: Vision
2020’. In the centenary year of the LIS education in India, this
conference would be organized jointly by the Department of Library and
Information Science, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and the Indian
Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS)
from 26-28 November 2011.

Sub-themes: These sub-themes are not exhaustive, rather indicative only.

Critical analysis of 100 years of Library education in India to
develop a sustainable vision for future.

New dimensions of LIS Education in the next decade(s), proliferation
of new departments/courses versus strengthening of existing ones.

LIS education and job-market: relevance and consistency:  with a focus
on UGC norms, Curriculum, teaching methods, evaluation and examination
systems

Role and status of LIS departments in Universities and Institutions of
Higher Education and Research

Faculty and infrastructural requirements with special reference to
learning resources in Indian languages.

Student-centered learning, space and support infrastructure (learning resources)

Restructuring of LIS programmes with special emphasis on choice-based
credit system

Accreditation and quality assurance in LIS courses with special
emphasis on Open and Distance Learning.

LIS Research and publication: expanding horizons.

Continuous Professional Education and Training

Impact of ICTs on LIS Education and Research, and integration of
Information Literacy and other upcoming subjects

Partnership and collaboration in LIS education, research and training,
Multidisciplinary and specialty courses for the corporate information
environment. Alumni networking and support

Full articles and research papers (with abstracts) on the above
sub-themes and other topics related to the main theme are invited to
reach the IATLIS headquarters as a hard copy and also as an email
attachment latest by 17 October 2011 at the address given below this
message.


References at the end of the paper and their in-text citing should be
according to APA Style manual. Abstracts only won’t be considered
until the full paper is received. Authors should also send a demand
draft of Rs. 500/- in the name of Indian Association of Teachers of
Library and Information Science (IATLIS), payable at Patiala along
with the full paper. The papers received would be peer-reviewed for
inclusion in the conference volume. The amount of Rs 500/- would be
adjusted towards the author’s conference registration fee for papers
to be included in the conference volume.
