*Introduction*



Realizing the need for imparting instructions related to academic/technical
writing to the researchers, research guides in Science and Technology,
Social Sciences and Humanities, the Kerala State Council for Science
Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Government of Kerala and Centre for
Information Literacy Studies (CILS), University of Kerala have taken the
initiative of organizing a series of workshops on Academic Writing. Taking
the cue and drawing inspiration from the earlier programmes, a three
day *Workshop
on Academic Writing Skills* is being organized jointly with Kerala Forest
Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi, Thrissur. **

*Objective of the Workshop*

*            *The main objective of the Workshop is to familiarize the
Scientists,
Research Scholars and Information Professionals with* *the latest trends in
academic/technical writing including the style manuals and the reference
management softwares, especially, the open sources.

 *Target Group*

*            *The Workshop is primarily meant for scientists, research
guides and research scholars working in the S & T research institutes and
Departments of universities. The information professionals of research
institutions and universities can also participate. The number of
participants is limited to 40.

               -- Preparation of journal articles

               -- Thesis writing

               --  Preparation of project proposals

               --  Digital information sources and techniques of
information search

               --  Reference management softwares

               --  Data analysis softwares

               --  Open access publishing

               --  Research quality indicators

               -- Style manuals and citation practices

*Resource Persons*

*            *The resource persons include academicians and researchers who
have made a mark in the field of academic writing / technical writing and
experts in handling data analysis and reference management software..

*Organizers*

*            *The Workshop is organized jointly by Kerala State Council for
Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Kerala Forest Research
Institute (KFRI), Peechi and Centre for Information Literacy Studies
(CILS), University of Kerala. The Organizing Secretaries are *Dr. Ajit
Prabhu, V.*, Joint Director, KSCSTE, *Dr. R. C. Pandalai,* Programme
Co-ordinator, Extension and Training Division, KFRI and *Dr. Vijayakumar,
K. P.,* Hon. Director, Centre for Information Literacy Studies, University
of Kerala.

*Venue & Date*

*               *The venue of the Workshop is Kerala Forest Research
Institute (KFRI), *situated at Peechi, a sylvan location 20 km east of
Thrissur, Kerala. *The dates of the workshop are 21 – 23 December
2011.



*Registration*

* *

*            *Registration to the Workshop is absolutely free. But,
participants have to make their own arrangements for travel and
accommodation. The organizers will provide course materials, lunch and
light refreshments as part of the Workshop.



Admission is purely on first come first served basis. However, preference
will be given to scientists, researchers and library and information
professionals serving in the R & D establishments falling within the ambit
of KSCSTE.
