                Web Mining: Applications and Techniques

Abstract: The advent of the World-Wide Web has overwhelmed users with an
enormous flood of information. The W3C provides every internet citizen
with access to an abundance of information, but it becomes increasingly
difficult to identify the relevant pieces of information. To be able to
cope with the abundance of available information, users of the Web need
assistance of intelligent agents for finding, sorting, and filtering the
available information. The database research community and others have
stated “The Information Utility” makes it easy for everyone to store,
organize, access, and analyze the majority of human information. Web
mining tries to address this problem by applying techniques from data
mining and machine learning to Web data and documents. The attention paid
to web mining, in research, software industry, and web- based
organization, has led to the accumulation of significant experience. This
colloquium will address the issues of web mining, taxonomy, the various
algorithms used in different research fields, its use and future
applications.
