It's our pleasure to inform you that, Mahatma Gandhi Central Library,
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and INDEST-AICTE Consortium, Indian
Institute of Technology Delhi organising "INDEST-AICTE Consortium Seminar
on  E-Resource Management and North Zone User Convention" from 18-19
November, 2010 at IIT Roorkee.

THE HOST

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee is the oldest engineering
educational institution in the country. It was established in 1847 as
College of Civil Engineering Roorkee which was renamed as Thomason College
of Civil Engineering in the memory of James Thomason (then Lt. Governor of
North West Provinces) in 1854. Thomason College was converted into
University of Roorkee after independence in 1947 which now have been
converted into Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 2001 by the
Central Government recognizing its national importance.


The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library

Mahatma Gandhi   Central Library of the Institute finds a unique place in
the academic library scenario in this part of world. It is an amalgamation
of the old and the new. While it is one of the oldest academic libraries
in country, it is housed in a state of art new building using latest ICT.
The Library contains more than 3.40 lacs documents in every form of media.
It has access to more than 12000+ e-journals and 25000+ e-books. About
6000 books are added to its collection annually.

The building of the MGCL has been designed keeping in view of latest ICT
facilities. It has a provision of more then 200 I/Os for connecting
desktop computers. Wi Fi connectivity is provided for laptops. A well
equipped imaging centre with two Minolta Planetary Scanners and several
flatbed scanners has been established for digitization purpose. The
Library maintains six servers for various activities. The library has also
established an Institute repository “Bhagirathi” which is to contain
Institute achieves and other publications and available at
http://bhagirathi.iitr.ac.in/dspace . Further information about the

ABOUT ROORKEE

Roorkee is situated at the foot of Himalayas, has picturesque landscape
blessed with holy Ganga canal and is the gateway to world famous
pilgrimage and tourist places of Hardwar, Rishikesh, Valley of  flowers,
Badrinath, Kedarnath, Dehradun and Mussoorie. It has a population of over
1,50,000 and is at a distance of about 180 Km from Delhi. It is directly
connected through railways to Delhi, Bombay, Lucknow, Calcutta, and
Amritsar. Regular bus and taxi service is available from Inter State Bus
Terminal at Delhi and takes about 5 hours from Delhi to Roorkee. The
weather in November is very comfortable however sometimes light woolens
may be required. Participants are advised to come prepared accordingly.

INDEST-AICTE Consortium
Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences and Technology
(INDEST) Consortium” was set-up in 2003 by the Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD) on the recommendation of an Expert Group appointed by
the Ministry. It provides access to electronic resources to its member
institutions comprising of more than 1207 members including 48 core member
institutions with MHRD funding,  including IITs, IISc, NITs, NERIST, ISM,
IIIT, IIITM , NITIE, IISER & NITTTR, 60 AICTE supported institutions and
1099 institutions that have joined the consortium under its self-supported
category. The Consortium was converted into INDEST-AICTE Consortium in
December 2005 with the AICTE playing pivotal role in enrolling its
affiliated engineering colleges and institution as members of the
consortium.

Registration Fee

There is no registration fee for the members of INDEST-AICTE Consortium.
The participants need to submit their registration form through proper
channel. However for non members the registration fee is Rs.1500.
Accompanied persons shall be charged Rs. 1000 each extra.

Lodging, Boarding and Travel

The arrangement for lodging and boarding of participants will be made in
Institute‘s guest houses from 17th November 2010 evening to 20th November
2010 morning on twin sharing and first come first basis. Rs 750/- shall be
charged for accommodation. As the accommodation at IITR is limited,
participants are requested to book their accommodation as early as
possible by sending the requisite amount in the form of cheque/DD payable
at Roorkee.  The participants desirous of staying in hotels will have to
make their own arrangement. Travel expenses will be born by participating
institutions.
