The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, USA, Mortenson   Centre for International Library Programs has a invited Prof. Shalini R. Urs of University of Mysore to be the Mortenson Distinguished Lecturer 2010 during October 2010. The program consists of lecture programmes, Round Table discussions and meetings. The annual lecture series, by a renowned speaker on a topic related to international understanding and libraries,  began in 1990 and is one of the highlights of the international events held on the campus. 
Recognizing her accomplishments and her work in the areas of digital libraries, Prof. Urs has been bestowed with this rare honour- first for an Indian Library Professional.  Past  Mortenson Distinguished Lecturers  are from across the world of intellectuals and library and information professionals including  James H. Billington, the thirteenth  Librarian of Congress  Alex  Byrne, president of International Federation of Library Professionals (IFLA 2005-7) , Talat S. Halman well known author and minister for culture in Turkey , and others.
Prof. Urs lecture “Shifting terrains, Crossing Boundaries: Digital Libraries are personal and social again! —Is scheduled at 4.00 PM on October 20th followed by a reception. The Round Table discussion is scheduled on October 19th at 1.00 PM. The other programme of activities include WILL Focus 580 – public radio interview;  WILL Focus 580 – public radio interview ; Interactive  discussion meetings with iSchool at Illinois students and faculty; and dinner with the Mortesnon family and the campus faculty.
