Librarians day was celebrated at St. Agnes College and Centre for Post
Graduate Studies and Research Library in association with the departments on
12.08.2010 at 12.30Pm.
The Master of ceremony Miss. Lolita Crasta, II MCom, welcomed the gathering
and called forward Sr. Marie Evelyn A.C, the co-ordinator, Guest of Honour
Prof. Jayanthi Shanker, Psychology department Kuvempu university and Dr.
Vishala B K ,S G librarian of P G Center the heads of the departments and
Deans of under graduate college to light the lamp. Later Dr. Vishala B K
highlighted the significance of the day and encouraged the students to use
the library to the maximum extent. She also advised students to work hard
for which reward would come in appropriate time.
On this auspicious day a wonderful gift i.e User Id and password to each and
every faculty members was given to access E-Resources through INFLIBNET-
Sr. Marie Evelyn AC in her message stressed that library is the brain,
Teachers and staffs are the heart, the building and its facilities are the
nervous system and students are the blood. She expressed her gratitude to
the librarian for giving a gift which she felt worth more than Gold. She
requested students to use the library every day. She conveyed to the
librarians in keeping up to their title of “The Master of all the Masters”.
Miss. Selma, Library assistant proposed the Vote of thanks. To close the
ceremony with a sweet note everybody was given sweets.
In connection with librarians day competitions were conducted to the
students. II year Master degree students were given a task of reviewing
journal article and reviewing a book relevant to their subject and requested
to submit to the departments.
For the first year, a memory test was given to get acquainted with the books
in their subject as well as other discipline. 3 minutes was given to the
students to observe the books and 2 minutes to write the accurate author and
title of the books. The prizes were given to the students. So, the students
and staff equally enjoyed the day with the library staff.
