*Open Access Digital Archives of MGU Theses Launched by H E. Dr APJ Abdul
Kalam Former President of India*

H.E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, launched Mahatma Gandhi
University open Access Online Theses Digital Library, on 9nth November 2008.
It is the first Online Digital Theses Library of any Indian University
covering more than 1000 theses in Sanskrit, Malayalam, Hindi and English
with multilingual search facility. It is digitization project commemorating
25 years of achievement of the university towards contribution to knowledge
generation.



*Mahatma Gandhi University Online Theses Digital Library* accessible through
web at www.mgutheses.org can promote the application of results from
doctoral research for the benefit of the society. This becomes relevant in
the context of Open Access Initiatives (OAI) worldwide that uses ICT and
Internet to throw open the knowledge generated by public funded research
kept in the locked archives and libraries.



 Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam stated that the availability of these dissertations
over the web will be an important step towards democratization of knowledge.
After launching the digital Archives and verifying its possibilities by some
searches adds "I am sure the model of digital archives followed by MG
University will be emulated by many Indian universities, which will go a
long way in democratization of knowledge, prevention of duplication and will
lead to transparency in the education system.



>From 17.30 Hrs 09.11.2008 when H.E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of
India. Launched the digital Archives it has become the first open Archives
digital Archives of doctoral dissertations of India Accessible worldwide 24
hrs, 365 days a year.
