*DSpace*

DSpace is an institutional archival software designed to collect, manage,
distribute, preserve and redistribute the digital assets of an organization.
Libraries world over are increasingly using DSpace for long-term
preservation of fragile digital research material and creating digital
libraries of digital material including published and preprint papers;
technical reports; working papers and conference papers; electronic theses;
digital datasets; digital images; digital audio/visual material; digital
educational material; and, of course, digitized library collections.

Developed jointly by MIT Libraries and HP labs, DSpace is freely available
software and it can be customized to suit one's requirements. There are
several open source software available however, DSpace has more number of
installations all over the world. It captures data in any format – text,
video, audio, and data. It is distributed over the web, indexes the works
and makes the search and retrieval by users easy, and preserves the digital
work for a long period of time. Given its (DSpace) potential for a wide
range of applications, the workshop has been planned to help the potential
