Dear Colleagues,

You might be aware, Max Mueller Bhavan in collaboration with the French Embassy, British Council and Instituto Cervantes organised "Libraries on the Agenda" ": An International Seminar on Library Advocacy. The seminar was also supported by The National Knowledge Commission.

The seminar was intended to provide a platform to Indian professionals and other stakeholders to explore ways and means of taking the NKC recommendations to the implementation stage. The expertise and the efforts made all over Europe towards library advocacy, branding and Marketing of libraries, library policies and best practices were shared in the seminar as illustrations of good practices. The seminar culminated into workshops and the professionals taking part in the workshops deliberated upon developing a blue print and an action plan on the following four topics, which would be helpful in reviving and modernising the library landscape in India:

1. Role and Authority of the National Commission as an Advocate for Library Development in India
2. Developing an Advocacy Strategy for Indian Libraries
3. Branding and Marketing for Changing the Image of Libraries in India
4 Developing Standardised ICT Infrastructure for Libraries in India

The Executive summary of the workshop results is available at the National Knowledge Commission website at:
http://knowledgecommission.gov.in/downloads/documents/IntSeminar_Libraries.pdf
