The issue that was discussed was about quality and requirement. Multiple 
options need to be created for entry into research. For example IISc takes 
external registration for sponsored candidates. For them only a pass in 
the gate examination is sufficient. This is because a company has 
requested them to take research in a particular area. This is what 
prompted us to vocally say that quality is more important than any other 
criteria
