The Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries program will make grants 
to improve the capacity of developing world libraries through training 
,infrastructure, technology, digitization and preservation of STM 
information. The Foundation will focus in particular on supporting 
partnerships in these areas between libraries in the developing countries

The New Scholars program is designed to encourage the participation of 
women in academic science and technology through programs that address the 
challenges associated with managing career and family responsibilities. 
We are focusing in particular on supporting the efforts of academic

India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is
the accreditation agency for Engineering
Education in India. They did a good job in

allowed 2 years to to bring its academic
programmes, curricula and syllabus, examination
and evaluation system to the international level
and revise its accreditation system to make it
fully outcome based, with credit system for
flexibility and continuous evaluation for
improved learning being the basis of such
programmes.If NBA and our technical institutes
are successful in achieving this goal, Indian
engineering degrees will be internationaly
recognised.

Sub: Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for Assistant Librarians/ College
Librarians

In the UGC letter No. F.2-1/94(PS)-7 dated 19.10.2006 on the subject
cited above:

Para 1,i,b, of the letter under reference states:

The refresher courses prescribed in the letter are of minimum four
weeks duration, where as the UGC has approved Refresher Course of 3
week duration for Academic Staff Colleges established by the U.G.C. in
various universities of the country.

"Whereas in case of teachers the wording says, one Orientation Course
and one Refresher Course of approved duration as may be specified by
the U.G.C."


The Orientation Course has no mentioned in the letter, whereas in the
wait of new CAS, many professionals whose senior scale is due or going
to be due in near future have completed one Orientation Course.


This needs to be brought under the notice of U.G.C. and got rectified
subsequently.

If any association or professional has sought clarification from
U.G.C. regarding the said points, Pl. let all the professionals know
about it

Selection Process:
A written test for the short listed candidates will be held simultaneously

Selected candidates from the written test will be called for a personal

hi freinds,

Karnataka state govt, went to recruinting 75 librarian posts for P U C 
Collegies,from those who have completed bachelor's degree in library 
scince but in karnataka almost all universities have started integrated 
two year course, that is M.L.I.Sc.without B.L.I.Sc.therefore this is 
injustice for those have completed M.L.I.Sc.secondly librarian post 
anywhere equel to Lecturer post but here they gave 'B'grade for Lecturers 
and 'C'grade for Librarian.and thirdly Payscale also less compare to 
Lecturer.therefore I request to All librarian to send ur dissent to kpsc 
or PUC Education board or state govt through News paper opinion colume or 
e-mail to govt & K P S C or orgise opposition group to protect librarin 
post,grade and salary or request to ur dept HODs About Ur Education 
System.

Elsevier announces Significant Increases in Impact Factors

More than 65% of Elsevier Journals increased in impact factor in 2006,
with top rankings in 53 categories, according to the 2006 Journal
Citation Reports(c)

Amsterdam - July 18, 2007 - Elsevier, the leading publisher of
scientific, technical and medical information products and services,
today announced that more than 65 percent of its journals improved in
impact factor, as reported in the 2006 Journal Citation Reports.  In
addition, 53 Elsevier titles ranked number one in their respective
categories, including:  Seminars in Radiation Oncology (#1 in
Radiology); Landscape and Urban Planning (#1 in Urban Studies);
Gastroenterology (#1 in Gastroenterology & Hepatology); Annals of
Emergency Medicine (#1 in Emergency Medicine); The Journal of Allergy
and Clinical Immunology (#1 in Allergy), Biomaterials (#1 in Materials
Science, Biomaterials); and Journal of Catalysis (#1 in Engineering,
Chemical).

"The continued increase in impact factors across our journals in both
Science & Technology and Health Sciences demonstrates progress in
building world class content, reflecting the dedicated effort of our
editors and publishing staff," said Mayur Amin, Senior Vice President,
Research and Academic Relations.

The impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which the average
article in a journal has been cited in a particular year.
The impact factor helps to evaluate a journal's relative importance,
especially when compared with others in the same field.

Other notable results among Elsevier Journals include:

The Lancet continued to surge ahead in medicine and confirmed its
position as the second highest ranked journal in the field with a two
point increase in Impact Factor.

Cancer Cell and Immunity, two Cell Press journals, also showed
significant increases in Impact Factor, adding over five and three
points to their Impact Factors respectively.

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta-Molecular Cell Research, Elsevier's oldest
and biggest biochemistry journal, increased its impact factor
substantially from 4.8 to 6.9 in 2006.

Elsevier has the top four ranked titles in the electrochemistry
category: 1) Biosensors and Bioelectronics; 2) Journal of Power Sources;
3) Electrochemistry Communications; and, 4) Electrochimica Acta.

one can say the uses of libraries are not well spread among the 
societies.I tried to write in marathi paper but being not awell known 
person the same was not published.I wish the people like you, Dr Prasad 
and also satyanarayan and also madame S Murthy write about LIS it may 
catch the others. I always feel that karnataka and Andhra-Pradesh are well 
ahead for doing better perfomance in this field than Maharashatra.

I always feel about the salary packages offered to MLIS professionals.This 
may be one of the reason that scholars are not getting attracted to our 
field.

I am trying my best in Mumbai but I do not find that any library 
organisation eg BHOSLA is doing something good for our profession.I want 
your help and guidance. I want to work sincerely for our profession to 
bring it parallel to IT developments who are grabing our profession very 
badly.We librarians try our level best to update with new technologies but 
the opportunities ar for Librarians cum manager cum administration.

Knowledge commission by sam Pitroda is on the paper not in practice for 
infrastructure of libraries and opportunities for LIS professionals.

Qualifications: 1). B.Lib.Sc (First class / distinction). Those qualified

system would be given added weightage. 3). Should be proficient in English
(both reading and writing).

ABOUT WISE (BRIEF PROFILE)

The World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE) is a fast growing,
not-for-profit organization set up in June 2004, with the primary
objective of promoting sustainable energy, energy conservation, and
sustainable development. In particular, the institution is committed
towards addressing the shortcomings existing in the renewable energy
sector in India, viz. lack of policy support and incentives, lack of
legislative and research support, lack of qualified manpower, and lack of
critical awareness that would lead to the transition to a sustainable
energy-based economy. WISE has recently drafted a model draft renewable
energy law for India and is advocating its adoption by Parliament. The
activities of WISE thus aim to provide a major impetus to the development
of the renewable energy sector in all Indian states.

WISE is headed by its founder Director General, G M Pillai, a senior IAS
officer of the rank of Additional Secretary to the Government of India. He
was formerly Director General, Maharashtra Energy Development Agency
(MEDA), the state nodal agency for renewable energy development,
