  Introduction
  Digital library is a reality even for the smaller libraries and information centers. The reductions in the cost of hardware and software, revolution in telecommunication technology, and growth in skill base have brought some avenues for adopting new technologies in libraries. Electronic collections are gaining importance as compared to its print counterpart because of the multiple access facility, searching, browsing etc.
  The availability of technological infrastructure and the growing demand of the user community is forcing the librarians to create their own institutional repositories.
  Again, Open source movement has gained momentum in developing country like India. Open source library softwares are not only useful for managing electronic collections effectively, but also helps in providing access to end users in an user friendly manner.
 
About the Workshop
The basic purpose of the workshop is as follows:
      
   To provide hands on experience on converting print to digital formats   
   Installation and configuration of various Digital Library Softwares like Greenstone and D-Space   
   Collection building   
   Organizing  digital documents by adopting various international standards   
   Searching and browsing of digital collection 

    About CSMCRI Library and Information System 

  The CSMCRI Library is considered to be a premier one in this region having a rich collection of books, periodicals, reference materials etc. in the areas of R&D being carried out in the institute. Besides catering to the information needs of R&D staff of the institute, the library also extends facilities to the visiting research scholars, university faculties, R&D staff of the industries, government officials and others.
The total collection of the library is 50, 000 consisting of books, back volumes, patents, standards, micro-cards etc. Being a member of CSIR Consortium, it has access to more than 4500 scholarly e-Journals. The Library provides important library services like ILL, DDS and Literature Search Services. 
Registration Fees
          Librarians/ Faculty/Professionals:  Rs.200/-    Students:  Rs.100/-
  Registration Fee can be paid in cash or DD drawn in favour of “The Director, CSMCRI, Bhavnagar”. Registration covers Lunch and Tea. Participants are requested to please return the filled-in registration form along with DD to the following address:
