CURRENT IT APPLICATIONS IN INFORMATION SERVICES:
A COURSE FOR INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS IN
ASIA-OCEANIA

The School of Information Management, Victoria
University of Wellington
New Zealand
Sponsored by the IFLA Advancement of
Librarianship Programme

This short course is tailored specifically to the
needs of information professionals working in
developing countries in Asia and Oceania. It
provides basic knowledge and skills in the
application of information technology to the
operation of a modern information service,
whether public or private sector, as well as
hands-on experience in the development and use of
key technologies for the production, storage and
dissemination of information in proactive
information environments. The course includes
classroom instruction, extensive IT lab work, and
visits to a wide range of excellent,
state-of-the-art libraries and information
services in Wellington.

There are limited places for a small number of
fee-paying students - the cost of study in New
Zealand is low in comparison with other developed
countries. November-December is spring and early
summer in New Zealand, so the climate is
relatively mild. Students are provided with
single room accommodation in a University hostel
in the centre of Wellington, New Zealand's
harbourside capital city.
