The MR and KM are at critical phase of correlating where the intellectual property right is at its epic. MR firms handle most critical information and its their bread and butter, Indeed capturing will not be easy task unless until you don't work first on the flaw actors of KM like Trust, Support, Leadership etc.
Yaa its pure a people issue and than come how to capture on technology front which is not very easy task even you have a best in place technology in place.

Jeevan

With regards to the current project of Market Research i was correlating it with the initial phase of Knowledge Extraction (during primary research) where in we're trying to capture tacit knowledge from various individuals at various levels in an organization . Capturing tacit knowledge is quite difficult and in the context of the present IT research project emphasis is gather as much as possible.

Yes, it is very true that any M.R. project leads to creation of new knowledge. But the focus is towards how to capture it. Any market research project uses sources like Internet, Telephonic Interviews, Face to Face interviews and other external sources.

But usually as has been observed, people usually dont like to share information which they feel might be confidential. An example could be sharing information about revenue splits, or something focussing on clientele base. This happens majorly in the case of SMEs.

looking for more ideas on this.....

This can evolve in an interesting debate on the role of Knowledge Management
in market research.

If you look at the Knowledge Management as a process of creating new
knowledge , capturing , sharing , storing , updating and destroying . Then
you will find that market research firms at the top of the pyramid

Any market research leads to creation of new knowledge ( trends / insights /
views /facts etc) which is then shared by the firm at a price with the
community of stakholders ( business, individuals, society etc) . The
effectiveness of the price any MR firm can command for the new knowledge
depends on the efficiencies of its processes around ( storing it
different formats/ customisation etc , regular updates and moving it off the
self to be replaced by newer knowledge.

*In my views MR firms epitomises the business value of knowledge management*
.
